A chat with Diako about GI:s work in Iraqi Kurdistan
Just home from a nine month stay in Iraqi Kurdistan, Diako Sheik Aghaei can look back at a busy time working with the Gothenburg Initiative democracy and development program. Since 2007 he has arranged seminars and educated 2500 young Kurds, and about 175 local NGO:s , in peace and development and conflict management. He also found the time to initiate an umbrella organization together with ten local NGO:s, and to hold dialogue-seminars between young people and their parents. Back in the blistering cold of the record-chilly Swedish winter he found a few moments for a quick conversation about how the Gothenburg Initiative democracy program in Iraqi Kurdistan has developed.
New "Somalia Political Briefing" Februari 2010!
Every other month, The Gothenburg Initiative is providing an extensive political briefing for the Somalia situation.
Home to Nairobi!
For a week she is visiting the Gothenburg office, but soon Sofie Sandström is travelling home to Nairobi to work as a program coordinator for the Gothenburg Initiative.
The Office of Widows and Orphanages
During my last visit to Hargeisa, Somaliland (November 2008) I met these two nice women in the picture, Mrs Fadumo Ali Guhad and Mrs Fadumo Deria Robleh.
We met at the Minister's of Planning and according to the two ladies, Mr Minister finished their needs. Mrs Fadumo x 2 have a society called "THE OFFICE OF WIDOWS AND OPHANGES" in 26 June village.
"We are always going to the different offices of the government and charities using them to help the orphanages" Mrs Fadumo says.
For me, it was nice to see that there are people talking an active part in supporting those who are in need of support.
We wish them all success in the future work.

Somalia crisis deteriorates, aid agencies warn!
The Gothenburg Initiative was one of 39 aid agencies that signed a joint statement regarding the present humanitarian crisis in Somalia. The statement came as UN Security Council members met to discuss Somalia.
PETT CSS IBTVET Half Annual Review
One step ahead has been taken in the PETT project for CSS under GI agreement with the PETT consortium. Project officer Faadimo Abdulaahi and her colleagues managed to arrange the half annual review on Februrary 20th with representation from partners and IBTVET centres. All this happened at the new GI office in Mogadishu. The event was covered by Somaliweyn media and for those of you who read and understand somali, the article can be read here. Information about Aids in our school in Galkayo
Hawa Mahamud Saiid and Mohamed Hersi are two of the teachers of Göteborgs Initiativet at VTC in Galcayo. Both Hawa and Mohamed participated in the two educations on HIV prevention GI during 2005 and 2006.
